The following video shows Beirut in the early 20s when it was under the French Mandate (1923-1946). The video shows several, random aspects of life in the 20s such as how big ships did not dock at the Port of Beirut but would pick up passengers to shore. We see images of The Grand Serail, the Sursok neighborhood, a tram ride through Beirut (passing by AUB), Weygand Street (today’s Downtown), the Corniche as well as a small plane which linked Europe to the Levant.
The video was produced for the French news at the time. It was uploaded by Mediterranean Memory and shared on Facebook by Lebanon Archives.
